Happy 100th Birthday, Al Ross!

Above: Al Ross self-portrait from BEST CARTOONS OF 1944.

Happy belated birthday to cartoonist Al Ross, who turned 100 years old on October 19th. He celebrated at the Workmen’s Circle MultiCare Center in the Bronx, with many friends and family members around him.

Above: an Al Ross cartoon and Mr. Ross himself from the 1961 book COMPLIMENTS OF YOUR VOLKSWAGEN DEALER.

Shazia Khan, reporting for NY1, has a short (unimbeddable) video of that birthday party here.

EDIT: It's now on YouTube here:

"I believe in the status quo -- robbing the poor and keeping it."

Hat tip to Michael Maslin and Eli Stein!
